Two Football Players Take Home Top Honors at Nicholls Athletics Banquet

THIBODAUX – A pair of Nicholls State University football players, senior punter Patrick Dolan and freshman safety Jordan Hanberry, were honored with Student-Athlete of the Year accolades on Tuesday night at the 12th Annual Nicholls Athletics Awards Banquet. Dolan received Male Student-Athlete of the Year while Hanberry garnered Freshman Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

Dolan, a native of Mobile, Ala., earned his third consecutive First Team All-Southland bid after leading the conference in punting average at 42.3 yards, which also ranked sixth in the FCS. He also leaves Nicholls as the record holder in yards per punt at 43.1. Along with his on-field accomplishments, Dolan earned First Team Southland Conference All-Academic honors and was named 2010 Southland Conference Football Student Athlete of the Year. Not only is he a member of numerous honors programs for his academic accomplishments, but he also participated in community service events with the football team.

“Patrick is just a tremendous young man, “ said Nicholls head football coach Charlie Stubbs. “He is truly a great representative of not only our football program, but of the entire Nicholls State University.”

Hanberry, a product of John Curtis High School in River Ridge, La., contributed immediately by starting in the defensive backfield for the Colonels as a true freshman. For the season, Hanberry had 50 tackles, one interception, a fumble recovery and blocked a kick as he was named Honorable Mention All-Southland Conference. Studying pre-med, Hanberry is a member of the Nicholls Honors program.

“This is a great beginning for Jordan at the collegiate level, both in the classroom and on the field,” said Coach Stubbs. “I look forward to seeing him progress even further over the next three years.”
