FRISCO, Texas  – Two members of the Nicholls State University football team, redshirt junior defensive back Kerry Guidry and sophomore safety Jordan Hanberry, were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Team, announced the league office on Monday, Jan. 9.

With this year's selection of Guidry and Hanberry, it marks the third consecutive year that the Nicholls football program has had at least two student-athletes named all-academic.

“I'm very pleased with the performances of both of these young men, in the classroom as well as on the field,” said Nicholls football head coach Charlie Stubbs. “They are two great examples of what I'm trying to teach here, which is that you can be successful in both areas. Overall, we had a great year in the classroom with 27 student-athletes finishing the fall semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher, and that includes four players who had a 4.0.”

Guidry, a native of Houma, La., played in all 11 games for the Colonels, including four starts with the last two coming at the linebacker position. On the year, Guidry finished with 33 tackles (20 solo), one interception and recovered a fumble. An allied health major, Guidry posted a 3.26 GPA and was a member of the 2010 Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Hanberry, majoring in biology/pre-med, earned all-academic honors after registering a 4.0 GPA. A native of River Ridge, La., Hanberry started nine games at safety as a true sophomore. On the season, he was sixth on the team with 43 tackles, while breaking up four passes with one forced fumble. After earning Freshman Male Student-Athlete of the Year at Nicholls in 2010, Hanberry was once again recognized for his achievements by being named the 2011 Model-Student Athlete by the Nicholls football program.
