Colonel Football to Host Spring Scrimmage and Junior Day

THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University football team will hold its annual spring scrimmage on Saturday, April 21, at John L. Guidry Stadium, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday will also be Junior Day for prospective recruits, which is set to begin at 9 a.m.

Admission to the scrimmage is free of charge. A live video broadcast will also be available on ThibodauxOnline.com, set to start at approximately 10:35 a.m. With construction going on at the west side of the stadium, fans are asked to park in the east parking lot.

Like last spring, the scrimmage will be a controlled format, with 50 plays of live action. The scrimmage will start out with special teams work, followed by 20 plays of first-and-10 situations. The team will then shift to 18 plays in the red zone, which will include field goals, before splitting up for the next portion.

For the next 16 plays, the passing game will be the focus as the team heads into 7-on-7 passing drills. The linemen will separate from the rest of the squad to conduct drills against each other.

The conclusion of the scrimmage will feature 12 plays of third-down situations.

“With our depth at the offensive and defensive lines still being thin, we wanted to keep the format of a controlled scrimmage, “Nicholls football head coach Charlie Stubbs said. “We've had a very productive spring and I look forward to having our guys compete in front of a great crowd.”

Registration for Junior Day is set for 8:45 a.m., with an hour-and-half presentation scheduled for 9 a.m. The event will be held in Peltier Auditorium, which is located on campus at the corner of Ellendale and Madewood.  To register ahead of time, please visit the football page at geauxcolonels.com.

Saturday's spring scrimmage will kick off a full slate of Colonel athletic events on campus. At noon, the Colonel softball team hosts Northwestern State and the baseball team will square off against Lamar at 2 p.m.
