THIBODAUX, La. – With report day just two weeks away, Nicholls State University football head coach Charlie Stubbs announced that former San Jose State offensive lineman
Abasi Salimu has joined the Colonel football program.
Salimu, a native of Los Angeles, Calif., is eligible to play in the 2012 season and has two years of eligibility remaining.
After prepping at Crenshaw High in Los Angeles, Salimu, listed at 6-foot-5, 290-pounds, spent three years at San Jose State, redshirting in 2009. In his 2010, he played on the defensive line, appearing in one game. He later made the transition to offensive line, which is where he'll compete for playing time for the Colonels.
Before joining the Spartans, Salimu was named second-team Los Angeles All-City as a senior at Crenshaw. In the classroom, he earned National Society of High School Scholars honors. At Nicholls, he will major in kinesiology/human performance education.
With addition of Salimu, Nicholls has brought in 23 student-athletes for the 2012 signing class. The Colonels are set to report for fall camp on Aug. 3.
