THIBODAUX, La.  – The Nicholls State University football team held its first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday morning at John L. Guidry Stadium, going for around 45 minutes before heavy rain and lightning led to a cancelation of the practice.

The Colonels were able to get 40 plays in before the weather became too severe. The team headed into the locker room for a 15-minute delay, but a decision was quickly made to end the scrimmage. The free kids' camp, Tillou's Maniacs, which was scheduled to take place after the scrimmage, was also canceled.

Nicholls was able to complete its first session of the morning, which consisted of 24 plays of 1st and 10 situations. The team then ran 16 red zone plays from various distances, including field goals after every four plays, before the rain forced head coach Charlie Stubbs' squad off the field.

While the scrimmage was cut short, the Colonels are scheduled to be back on the field on Saturday night for a 7:15 p.m. practice in shells.
