Bjornsson Shoots 71 To Open Moe O’Brien Intercollegiate

KINDER, La. - After waiting over five hours to begin the season, the Nicholls State University men's golf team got off to a solid start on Monday at the Moe O'Brien Intercollegiate hosted by McNeese State, shooting a 296 behind Andri Bjornsson's round of 71 and Florentino Molina Herran's round of 72.

The first round, which got off to a later start because of weather, will be completed Tuesday morning as play was suspended due to darkness on the final hole for three teams.

“It was a long day for us, especially when you're expecting to play 36 holes and you end up only playing 18 on very different course conditions than what you practiced on Sunday,” Nicholls head golf coach James Schilling said. “We need to finish stronger as an entire team, and I expect us to do that tomorrow.”

Bjornsson currently sits in a tie for sixth place after shooting a 35 on the front nine and 36 on the back to finish 1-under par, while Herran earned a score of 39 on the first nine holes, rallying to shoot a 33 on the final nine to sit in a tie for ninth place at even par.

All five Nicholls golfers had rounds under 80 on the afternoon, as newcomer Marcus Fox  finished with a four-over par round of 76, followed by Tanner Manuel's five-over par score of 77 and Adrien Le Sech's seven-over par score of 79.

Round two of the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start for the final 18 holes of competition, after the completion of the final hole of the first round which will begin at 7:30 a.m.
