Kerry Guidry Named to NFF Awards Nominee List

THIBODAUX, La.  – Nicholls State University senior linebacker Kerry Guidry was one of 147 candidates to be selected for the 2012 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards, announced the organization earlier this week.

The 147 nominees also comprise the list of semifinalists for the 2012 William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.

A graduate of H.L. Bourgeois, Guidry posts a cumulative 3.39 grade point average in sports medicine. Last year, he was one of two Colonels to be named Southland Conference All-Academic.

Since making the switch from defensive back to linebacker late last season, Guirdy has started each game for the Colonels. After three contests in 2012, he ranks third on the team with 17 tackles, including eight solo stops.

Candidates for the awards must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor, and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
