FCS STATS Top 25 Poll

THIBODAUX, La.  – After coming up just a field goal shy of one of the biggest upsets in college football history, the Nicholls State University football team received 38 votes in the latest edition of the STATS FCS Top 25 Poll.
 
Although the Colonels fell, 26-24, to the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs in their opener on Saturday, the performance was enough to garner national attention and put Nicholls at No. 38 in the weekly FCS poll. The Colonels last received votes in 2013 after a win over FBS Western Michigan propelled the team to an early 4-2 start.
 
Sam Houston is the top-ranked team in the Southland in the poll at No. 3, while McNeese is at No. 14. Central Arkansas is also receiving votes with 16.
 
The Colonels will host Incarnate Word for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff at John L. Guidry Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tickets are available by logging on to geauxcolonels.com or by calling the Nicholls Athletics Ticket Office at 985-448-4790.
