BATON ROUGE, La. – Another award rolled in for Nicholls State University football's
Kenny Dotson as the sophomore defensive lineman was named Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced Monday evening.
Dotson, who received the same honor from the Southland earlier in the day, helped direct an impressive performance by the Colonel defense in its 26-24 loss to No. 9 FBS Georgia. Late in the second quarter with Nicholls trailing 10-0, Dotson forced a fumble on a catch in Georgia territory and it was recovered by safety
Ahmani Martin. The Colonels capitalized on the play, scoring a touchdown on a 4-yard run by
Dontrell Taylor.
Dotson was one of several defenders to have an outstanding showing against the Bulldogs as the Colonels nearly captured their fourth FBS win all-time, and first against a team from the SEC. The Plaquemine native also had a sack and finished with five tackles.
Dotson is also up for American Sports Network FCS #Gamechanger of the Week. The poll is based on a fan vote, which can be accessed
here.
The Colonels will host Incarnate Word for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff at John L. Guidry Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tickets are available by logging on to geauxcolonels.com or by calling the Nicholls Athletics Ticket Office at 985-448-4790.
