FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls State University sophomore defensive lineman
Kenny Dotson has been named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
Dotson was one of several Colonel defensive players to shine in Nicholls' near 26-24 upset over No. 9 Georgia. The Plaquemine native forced a fumble in the second quarter which led to the Colonels' first touchdown, and also recorded the team's loan sack of the day. He finished the game with five tackles and 1.5 for loss.
As a team, Nicholls had a total of seven tackles behind the line of scrimmage and did an outstanding job in bottling up reigning SEC Player of the Week, running back Nick Chubb. For the game, Chubb rushed 20 times for 80 yards, marking the first start of his career where he did not reach 100 yards.
Dotson is also up for American Sports Network FCS #Gamechanger of the Week. The poll is based on a fan vote, which can be accessed

The Colonels will host Incarnate Word for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff at John L. Guidry Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tickets are available by logging on to geauxcolonels.com or by calling the Nicholls Athletics Ticket Office at 985-448-4790.
