HATTIESBURG, Miss. –
Maerys Joseph and
Callie Scull of the Nicholls State University women's track and field team performed exceptionally well at the Southern Miss Invite Saturday, climbing into the Top 15 of the league leaderboard in the 400- and 800-meter, respectively.
Joseph replaced Scull as the 15
th-best time in the conference at 57.57 seconds. Scull now boasts the 14
th-fastest 800 finish in the SLC at 2:20.95.
Hannah Naquin set a personal best in the 5000 meter at 19:52.55, now sitting 10
th in program history in that event.
"This meet was a nice outing for our team with many personal and season bests," Nicholls head track and field coach
Stefanie Slekis said. "After a tough training block the past two weeks, it was a nice opener to competition again at a laid back setting with perfect weather. I'm excited for our team to build off of these performances as we sharpen our preparation for the upcoming meets. Those meets will become more and more competitive each week leading up to the Southland Conference Championships."
Other notable personal records included Courney Troxclair in the 5000m (20:24.90),
Lucija Barac (5:39.80),
Taylor Douglas (5:21.72) and
Emily Sauce (5:01.93) in the 1500m,
Eleana Callejas in the 800m (2:23.52) and
Lakeisha Taylor in the 100m hurdles (15.63).
Nicholls returns to action in the McNeese Springtime Classic on Saturday, April 7.
