FRISCO, Texas - Three members of the Nicholls State University women's track & field program have been named to the 2022 Southland Academic All-Conference Team, the league announced Tuesday.
Elsa Rijpstra was a repeat selection while
Keiondra Narcisse and
Omo Oboh made the academic squad for the first time.
Rijpstra holds a 4.0 grade-point average in health sciences - pre-athletic training. She was an All-Southland Third Team honoree after placing third in the 10,000m at the Southland Outdoor Championship. Earlier this year, she ran a school record at the Southland Indoor Championship to earn first place in the 5,000m.
Narcisse posted a 3.75 GPA as a nursing major. On the track, she was part of the 4x100 team that took fourth in the SLC Championship. The squad also took third in the ULM Warhawk Classic and fifth at Southern Miss.
Also studying nursing, Oboh landed on the team with a 3.13 GPA. She was an All-Southland Second Team member after taking second in the Southland Outdoor Championship with a school record time. Oboh also paired up with Narcisse as part of the 4x100 relay team that placed fourth at the championship.
Southland Conference Track & Field All-Academic Teams are selected by a 50-percent rule. Of the total number of nominees, half are named all-academic selections. Honorees are nominated and voted upon by head coaches, sports information directors, and academic staff members from each university. Student-Athletes of the Year are voted on by the Southland awards committee, consisting of one administrator from each member school.
