THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University first baseman
Edgar Alvarez was named an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Sporting Goods Gold Glove Finalists, the organizations announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The 2024 NCAA Div. I Gold Glove finalists were voted on and selected by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Alvarez was stout in the field as he registered 483 put outs, 32 assists, and executed 33 double plays. He committed one error to finish the season with a .998 fielding percentage. He is one of three first basemen on the list joining Chayton Krauss of Dallas Baptist and Nick Kurtz of Wake Forest.
The Orlando, Florida native is the lone Southland Conference representative as he adds to his long list of accolades that include SLC Player of the Year, All-SLC First Team, SLC All-Defensive, and SLC All-Tournament. Additionally, he was named to the ABCA Rawlings All-America Second Team, ABCA/Rawlings All-Regional First Team, and Perfect Game All-America Third Team.
In all divisions, the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners will be announced on Wednesday, June 19 via social media by Rawlings Sporting Goods.
The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007 and are presented annually to the top defensive players from each division of collegiate and high school baseball.
Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 41 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
