THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State soccer team played its best overall game for nearly sixty minutes Friday afternoon, but the McNeese State Cowgirls struck the only two blows needed to remain undefeated in Conference play with a 2-0 win in Thibodaux.

Kamryn Koch scored both McNeese (7-3-4, 3-0-1) goals in the 61st and 85th minute of the game bringing her total to over ten goals on the season in the win. "I think we're finally starting to put it together on both sides of the ball," head coach Cindy Piper said. "We still have a lot of work to do before we get to where we want to be."

The Colonels (1-14-1, 0-5) kept the Cowgirls scoreless for most of the game, playing physical enough to where both teams had two yellow cards by the end of the first period. Although allowing 13 shots in the first period, McNeese was unable to find the net, including three would-be goals that were called back due to offsides.

It wasn't until Molly Mersereau had a lock on a save when the ball bounced over her head and gave Koch her first goal of the game. Koch would score again when she had a clear shot at the goal and fired one at the back of the net.

"These next four games are crucial for us," Piper said. "We still have a shot to do something special, but we have to be able to play for a full 90 minutes."

The Colonels will take on Lamar Sunday afternoon in the last home game of the 2007 season for Senior Day.
