For the first 45 minutes, the Nicholls State soccer team held a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. The UT-San Antonio Roadrunners looked deflated after the Colonels scored in the first few minutes of the game. After a stern lecture from Roadrunner head coach Steve Ballard, UTSA came out a different team and scored five unanswered goals in the second period to give the the Roadrunners their third win, and first win of the conference season.
With the loss Nicholls falls to 1-10-1 on the season while the Roadrunners improve to 3-6-1. Kaity Mattsson ended her scoreless draught in the third minute of the game with Tara Walsh earning the assist on Mattsson's fourth goal of the year.
UTSA seemed to have no momentum in the first period, but came out firing shot after shot at goalie Molly Mersereau, with Mersereau holding strong for the most part, but it was only a matter of tiem before UTSA would find the back of the net.
Alli Dillon would score the first road runner goal ten minutes into the second period, puting the score at 1-1. No more than a minute later, Veronica Najera netted a goal putting UTSA up 2-1. Najera would continue the onslaught scoing again just three minutes later for her second goal of the day. Dillon would have the assists.
Jenny Munoz made the score 4-1 in favor of the Roadrunners in the 77th minute from a Chelsey Pack pass. Dillon would wrap up her strong day with her second goal of the match with an unassisted goal in the 79th minute. Dillon would account for six UTSA points with two goals and two assists.
Mersereau would finish with ten saves on the day and the Colonels as a team would finish with 11 shots, while the Roadrunners would finish with 24.
Nicholls will remain at home to take on the Texas State Bobcats Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
