Both the men's and women's cross country teams had strong showings at the Memphis Twilight Run in Memphis, Tennessee. Standing out for the men was true freshman Brandon Kotzur who placed 75th out of 341 runners in the 8k race while senior Eunice Jepkogei led all Lady Colonels with an 80th place finish in the women's 5k run.
"There were a lot of participants in the races and it was different for our teams running at night," said head coach Scott Williamson. "Overall, I think that both our teams held their own and did a good job of representing the university."
Following Jepkogei in the women's 7k race for the Lady Colonels was sophomore Michaela Guidry in 89th with a time of 19:56.33. Junior Charlotte Everhardt crossed the finish line in 126th place with a time of 20:28.53, and sophomore Marion Chebet followed at 156 with a 21:00.54 showing. Rounding out the Lady Colonel runners was redshirt freshman Kadi Whisnant at 222 with a time of 22:04.03. As a team, the Lady Colonels finished 22nd out of 41 eligible squads in the race.
Kotzur clocked out with a time of 26:29.19 in the night run while other true freshmen Brandon Loupe and Logan Milano finished the 8k run at 230 and 231. Loupe ran a 28:59.36 while Milano finished with a time of 29:00.38. Rounding out the Colonels runners was true freshmen Phillip Culotta at 257 with a time of 29:43.88, and true freshman Joseph Fryou at 301 with a posting of 31:16.28. As a team, the Colonels finished 34th in the race.
Both squads will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Mississippi College Invitational in Clinton, Mississippi.
