Final Stats

THIBODAUX, La. - The Colonels sank 36-of-62 field goals (58.1%) in their 92-55 victory over Huston-Tillotson on Tuesday night, which included a career high 24 points by sophomore Michael Czepil.

"I was pleased with the effort and the way the team responded to what we were trying to do both offensively and defensively tonight," said head coach J.P. Piper. "We did a lot of things well, but we still need to keep on improving if we expect to compete on our level."

At one point in the game, Nicholls led by as many as 43 points, and even though the Rams cut back into the lead, the Colonels still managed to win by 37. Huston-Tillotson, who lost last week to fellow conference rival Texas State by the score of 101-81, struggled to find a rhythm in the second half as they only mustered 25 total points.

The Colonels (1-1) had four players score in double figures in the win. Czepil's 24 came in light of his 6-of-10 performance from behind the arc and a 9-of-14 effort from field goal range. Lone senior Adonis Gray chipped in with 16 points of his own, while sophomore Mitch Boyce had 13, and junior Ryan Bathie had 10. Gray also finished the game with five rebounds and two assists, while Bathie had seven rebounds, five assists, and a block to go along with his 10.

Boyce's 13 points came off the bench in only nine minutes of work. The 6-10 Australian native also had four rebounds (three offensive) and was 5-of-7 from field goal range and 1-of-1 from three-point land.

In the contest, 16 of the Colonels 17 players got in on the action as Nicholls out-rebounded the Rams 41-to-22 and outscored Huston-Tillotson (0-2) in the paint 36-to-10.

The Colonels bench outscored the Rams as well with Nicholls registering 34 points to Huston-Tillotson's 21. Of the bench contributors for the Colonels besides Boyce, fellow Australian Anatoly Bose put on a display in his mere 13 minutes on the floor by scoring eight points. Bose, a true freshman, was 2-of-3 from the three-point line and 3-of-5 from the floor in the victory.

Nicholls will travel to New Orleans, La. on Friday November 16 to take on Tulane in Fogleman Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and all the action can be heard on 105.9 FM KBZE and 640 AM KTIB locally. The contest can also be heard on the internet at www.kbze.com.
