The Lady Colonels went into the locker room at halftime only down five points, but the Lobos went on a 28-0 run in the second half to defeat Nicholls, 79-49.
The Lady Colonels (1-2) lost their second straight game away from Stopher Gym as true freshman Shelly West was the only Nicholls player to score in double digits in the loss with 10. West also had a game high tie in rebounds with nine and was perfect from the free throw line by going 4-of-4.
As a team, Nicholls shot 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the floor, and 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from three-point range. Three of the six three pointers that the Lady Colonels made came from senior Kelli Johnson. New Mexico (4-1) out shot the Lady Colonels from field goal range with a 51.9 percent (28-of-54) mark, and from three point land with a 53.8 percentage (7-of-13).
However, Nicholls did have a better percentage at the free throw line, 86.7 to 84.2, but only took 15 trips to the Lobos 19.
The Lady Colonels will look to bounce tonight as they play Choppin State at 6 p.m. CT.
