ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico - Freshman Shelley West scored 16 points and senior Katherine Plummer added 15, but it wasn't enough as the Coppin State Eagles defeated the Lady Colonels 69-57 in the consolation game of the Holiday Inn & Suites Express Midtown Tournament hosted by the University of New Mexico.

The Eagles (4-4) never trailed in the game and jumped out to an 8-0 lead at the 17:15 mark of the first half behind four points from Shalamar Oakley.

Nicholls (1-3) answered with an 8-0 run of their own and tied the game with 13:20 to play in the first half.

Coppin State came right back with an 11-0 run keyed by five points from Lakeytah Irving to take a 19-8 lead with 8:12 to play.

A three-point basket by Suber gave the Eagles their largest lead of the first half at 16 points and CSU took a 31-19 lead into halftime.

Senior Rashida Suber of Coppin State led all scorers with 20 points, including four points during a 6-0 run midway through the second half that increased the Eagle lead to 53-32 with 10:29 remaining.

Coppin State took its largest lead of the game at 58-35 when Jennifer Martin converted a free throw and followed with a lay-up.

Nicholls put together an 8-0 run that cut the CSU lead to 58-45 with 6:32 to play, but a basket by Martin and two free throws by Irving increased the margin to 17 points.

Suber led four Coppin State players in double figures in scoring as she finished the game 9-of-22 from the floor. Also reaching double figures was Oakley with 16, while Martin and Irving each scored 11.

Led by Suber with 11, Coppin State dominated the glass and out-rebounded Nicholls State 45-26.

The Lady Colonels will return to the hardwood on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. when they travel to New Orleans to take on the Lady Privateers of the University of New Orleans.
