The Colonels volleyball team played hard against the Texas-Arlington Mavericks Saturday afternoon, but the Mavericks proved to be too much for Nicholls in the end and left Thibodaux with a straight set victory in Southland play.
Nicholls (8-22, 2-12) only fell by nine points in the first set, but was unable to get anything going in the final two sets, falling by an average of 15 points.
The Mavericks played a nearly flawless game, with only seven errors with 41 kills on the day hitting .368 as a team. The Colonels would rack up 27 errors with only 39 kills hitting .094.
Kindra Halverson would finish with 13 kills to lead all players in the game in her final contest at Stopher with the next closest player being Chelsea Dockrey's eight. Bianca Sauls led the Mavericks with 11 kills, followed by Liz Curry's 10.
Nicholls will wrap up the 2007 season on the road against Central Arkansas next Friday and Northwestern State on Saturday.
