The Nicholls women's basketball team was unable to overcome a 41-24 halftime deficit on the road against Louisiana-Lafayette Tuesday, falling to the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 74-47.
The Lady Colonels (1-8) were led by senior Katherine Plummer, who had 14 points, four rebounds and three steals in 35 minutes, while freshman Shelley West had eight points and four rebounds.
The Ragin' Cajuns (4-7) were led by Alicia McDaniel, who scored 17 points, while Courtney Ratliff and Whitney Dunlap, each added 10 points.
Nicholls fell behind early, 22-9 with 9:26 remaining in the first half, but was able to cut the lead to six, 27-21 with 3:53 remaining until intermission. However, ULL responded by going on a 14-3 run to take a 41-24 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Ragin' Cajuns built on their lead in the second half by shooting 44.1 percent from the floor while forcing Nicholls to only eight field goals.
ULL shot 44.1 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from beyond-the-arc and 75 percent from the line while Nicholls shot 36 percent from the field, 18.2 percent from the 3-point line and 64.3 percent from the charity stripe.
The Ragin' Cajuns dominated the glass by out rebounding the Lady Colonels 44-28, including 17 offensive boards to Nicholls' six.
The Lady Colonels will return home for a non-conference contest against Centenary College on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
