The Lady Colonels took the lead at the 19:19 mark of the first half, and never looked back as Nicholls had five players in double-figures in their 86-54 victory over Centenary on Thursday night in Stopher Gym.
Leading the game in scoring and rebounding was true freshman Christie Bryant with 18 points and eight rebounds as she shot 6-of-9 from the floor, and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Following her over the decade mark was true freshman Shelley West with 17 points, while senior Katherine Plummer added her own 12 in the victory. Plummer also had a season best and game high eight assists.
Joining Bryant, West and Plummer in double-digits were juniors Funaki Kefu and Dominique Washington with 10 points each. Kefu had two blocks and two steals to go along with her point total, while Washington had three rebounds and one assist.
"We executed well tonight, and we need to build on this success as a team and keep on improving," said head coach Mark Cook. "I am very proud of my team and the way they competed tonight."
Centenary (2-9) had three players score 10-plus points in loss with Ashley Jackson leading the way with 13, while Anne Farrell and Sarah Weiler each rung up 12. Jackson had a team best six rebounds in the loss.
Nicholls (2-8) shot a season best 54.4 percent (37-of-68) from field goal range and a season high 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from three-point territory. The Lady Gents were held to a 36.8 percent (21-of-57) shooting mark from the floor, and had a 9.1 percent (1-of-11) showing from downtown.
The Lady Colonels also dominated in the paint by scoring 48 points in the colored wood, while the Lady Gents were held to just 22. Nicholls also committed just 10 turnovers, while Centenary had 17 miscues which led to 21 Lady Colonel points.
