JESSICA BARKSDALE PICKS UP SLC PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONORS

March 19, 2007

FRISCO, Tex. - Junior Jessica Barksdale became the third Colonel pitcher this season to be named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week when the conference honored her with the award on Monday afternoon.

"It is just a great honor for her and our team," said head coach Jenny Parsons. "Our pitching staff, along with Barksdale, has really kept us in a lot of games and won a lot of them for us."

Barksdale went 1-0 last week, as she threw a no-hitter against conference rival Texas State to give the Colonels an 8-0 victory in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday. She also struck out eight in the process, and if she would not have walked a Bobcat in the first inning, Barksdale would have thrown a perfect game.

She also relieved Krystalin Ensminger on Sunday, and only gave up one earned run over the last two innings to the Bobcats to pick up the save in the series finale. On the season, Barksdale has a 2-0 record and 1.07 ERA.

Here is what the Conference released earlier today:
