THIBODAUX, La. -
The LSU-Shreveport Lady Pilots and soggy field conditions proved to be too much for the Nicholls soccer team, as the Colonels fell to LSUS, 4-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Nicholls Soccer Field.
Heather Gamble led Nicholls (2-6-1) with one goal on three shots, all coming on goal. Caitlyn Donegan contributed one goal.
The Lady Pilots (6-1) were led by Michelle Williamson and Julia Vaughn with two goals apiece.
LSUS went into halftime with a 1-0 lead after Williamson scored her first goal of the afternoon in the 37th minute.
The Colonels took the lead after goals from Gamble and Donegan in the 54th and 60th minutes, respectively, put Nicholls ahead 2-1.
However, 1:11 later, Vaughn netted a goal past Colonel goalkeeper, Jenice Geare, tying the match at 2-2.
The Lady Pilots took over lead for good in the 71st minute when a Williamson penalty kick landed in the bottom right of the net, giving LSUS a 3-2 lead.
Vaughn scored exactly two minutes later, giving the Lady Pilots the match at 4-2.
Nicholls opens Southland Conference action on Friday as they travel to Hammond, La. to take on Southeastern Louisiana. Match time is set for 4:30 p.m.
