Costly errors and two UNO players with over ten kills spelled doom for the Colonels volleyball team in the first day of the Four Points by Sheraton UNO Invitational. Nicholls dropped three straight sets to the Privateers 35-33, 30-22 and 30-19 to drop the Colonels to 1-4 on the year while UNO improves to 2-3.
"After pushing them to 35 points in the first set using our game plan, we lost our focus and couldn't recover." Chris Laird said.
Rachel Spreen led the Colonels in kills with 13, with the next closest Nicholls player being Kindra Halverson with four. Lindsey Loyd had 13 kills for the Privateers, followed by Dobrilla Kovacevic's 12.
The Colonels will next take on Delaware at 10 a.m. before taking on Alcorn State later in the day.
