THIBODAUX, La. - In the past two games for the Colonels, when it rains, it pours. Fortunately for the Nicholls State soccer team, weather did not play a factor in today's game, but the Louisiana-Monroe offense rained shot after shot on the team to the tune of a 2-0 shut out victory for the Warhawks.

The Warhawks (3-3) blasted 27 shots in the contest to the Colonels (1-4-1) two, of those 27 shots, 16 were on goal. "We just didn't play with any intensity and heart today," head coach Cindy Piper said. "When you don't have those intangibles in a game, this is what can happen to you."

The first score of the game came in the 35th minute of the first period when, Nicholls committed a foul in the goalie box, giving ULM a penalty kick. With goalie Molly Mersereau standing between the first score of the game, Rachel Hobson floated a perfectly placed ball past Mersereau for the score.

ULM had 15 shots in the first half, and it would only take them five minutes into the second quarter when Sara Islas found Tiffany Bombard heading towards the net, and no more than a second later, netted a high shot over the head of Mersereau for the final score of the game.

ULM would go on to take 12 more shots in the period, remaining on the offensive for most of the period. The Colonels had an opportunity to score on one of their only two corner kicks, when a Sara West header just missed the net and went over the top bar. The two goalies would each work hard in different ways, as ULM goalie Mallory George was pushing her team on, Mersereau was stopping a season high 14 shots. "ULM had a great game plan for us, and we didn't adjust like we should have," Piper said. "Now we have to regroup, and get ready for ULL on Wednesday."

The Colonels will next take on Louisiana-Lafayette at home next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
