Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. - Wednesday afternoon, the Colonels soccer team was down by one goal to the Mississippi Valley State Lady Devilettes, and on the attack. However, Nicholls lost control of the ball and on an airborne shot, goalie Molly Mersereau came out of the net too far and allowed MVSU to score on a botched play putting them up by two en route to a 4-2 victory.

For another match, the Colonels allowed a single player to find the back of the net twice. Lady Devilettes player Amanda Blaede scored in the 18th and 81st minute of the game while Pella Hand and Apolonia Kukla rounded out the MVSU scoring.

Although Nicholls gave up a single goal in the first period and early in the second, Jessica Bedford brought the Colonels to within one of the Lady Devilettes, but Blaede's goal soon after seemed to deflate the team, although Michelle Branscome would net a long goal in the 87th minute. 46 seconds later, Kukla put the game away with the fourth goal for MVSU.

"We have a lot of very good individual talent on the field, but until we find a way to turn that into team play we won't succeed," head coach Cindy Piper said. "We have to get our leaders to step up on the field instead of allowing other teams to catch us off guard."

Nicholls didn't allow MVSU to get 20 shots in the game, but came close with 18, while the Colonels were able to shoot 13 of their own. Mersereau stopped 9 shots besides the four goals that were given up, while the Lady Devilettes' two goalies only dealt with seven.

The Colonels will next take on Centenary, Friday night in Shreveport.
