BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -
The Colonels soccer team went into Friday's game against Birmingham Southern looking to continue the good fortune it found last weekend defeating Southern and tying Jackson State. However, two goals by Lindsay Miller for the Panthers in both periods and another by Claire Hooten was enough to give the Panthers the 3-0 win.
Birmingham Southern tripled the number of shots the Colonels took in the match, 21-7, and although Nicholls goalie Molly Mersereau had 10 saves in the game, the three she let get past her made the difference for the Panthers.Three was also the number of shots on goal the team had in the entire match.
The first Panther goal came late in the first period when Serena Murphy found Miller for the goal in the 33rd minute of the game.
Nearly ten minutes after play resumed in the second period, Miller returned the favor to one of her teammates, assisting on the Hooten goal in the 57th minute of the game.
Much was the same, except in reverse, when Hooten assisted Miller on her second, and final, goal of the night in the 82nd minute putting Birmingham Southern up 3-0.
Nicholls will have Saturday off, and will face host Gardner-Webb, Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. eastern/ noon central.
