Sept. 8, 2007

Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After falling to Memphis in the first game of the Tiger Invitational, the Colonels volleyball team had to regroup in order to compete with the Mississippi State Bulldogs of the SEC in the afternoon match. Although Nicholls was able to find its rhythm in the second set of the match, Mississippi State was too much in the end, and defeated the Colonels in three sets 30-21, 30-23, 30-19.

Aaliyah Muhammad led the Colonels in kills with 10, followed by Kindra Halverson's eight and .615 hitting percentage. Jamie Joyner led the Bulldogs with 15 kills and only had two errors for a .520 hitting percentage. As a team, the Bulldogs hit .318 on the night as opposed to the Colonels' .082.

In the first set, Mississippi State jumped out to a six point lead at one point, with Nicholls making a small comeback during the match, but the Mississippi State lead was too much to overcome and the Bulldogs cruised to the first set victory.

Nicholls had a much better set in the second, going shot-for-shot with Mississippi State taking the lead a few times, but the team hit a wall at the 21-point mark and allowed the Bulldogs to win the match 30-23.

Nothing seemed to go the Colonels way in the third set as the SEC team would jut out to a nine point lead at one point that would be too much to overcome for Nicholls.

Nicholls' next match will be this morning at 9 a.m. against Arkansas-Little Rock, with live stats available via GameTracker.
