MEMPHIS, Tenn. -
After dropping the first two matches on Friday to Memphis and Mississippi State, the Nicholls State volleyball team had its early match against the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans on the second day of the Tiger Invitational. Unfortunately, Nicholls error-to-kill ratio was 32-31, a factor in the Trojans 30-18, 30-17, 30-27 victory.
This was the first time in the tournament that no Nicholls player had over 10 kills in the match. Sophomore Rachel Spreen was the closest with eight kills, followed by Kindra Halverson who had seven. Amilia Barakovic's 15 kills led the Trojans along with Lenka Melicharkova's 39 assists.
In the first set, the Colonels were down by 2 at one point early, but after UALR got their engines going, it was only a matter of time before they cruised to the first set victory.
Nicholls jutted out to a short lead early in the second match, but hit a bit of a wall once they got to the five point mark, allowing the Trojans to gain wind, and the ten-point lead earned was once again too much for the Colonels to recover from.
The team would play a much better all-around game in the third set, not letting UALR get a big lead early. Nicholls would make a game of it late, but was unable to pull out the victory.
The next Colonels game will be this afternoon against Austin Peay with stats available through GameTracker.
