The Colonel men's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season Friday afternoon, defeating Belmont 7-2 in the first of three-straight matches this weekend.
Nicholls picked up doubles wins from No. 1 Radu Ionescu/Vlad Popa and No. 2 Eric Fisher/Phenyo Matong. Ionescu/Popa took down the Bruins pair of Javier Rodriguez/Ignacio Gesto 8-4, while Fisher/Matong captured an 8-0 sweep of Marshall Lipman/Francisco Garcia.
In No. 3 doubles, Felipe Cirne-Lima/Zach Zola defeated the Colonel team of Rohan Shetty/Alex Gasca-Silav.
In the doubles round, Nicholls picked up wins at every spot but No. 1. Ionescu fell 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 to Rodriguez at No. 1, the only blemish of the day on the Colonels' singles ledger.
In No. 2 slot, Popa defeated Cirne-Lima 6-1, 6-1, while Fisher claimed the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1. Matong captured the No. 4 singles title 6-4, 6-0 over Lipman. At No. 5, Sami Mouline defeated Garcia 6-0, 6-1, while Shetty rounded out the Colonel winning with a 6-7 (14-12), 7-6 (13-11), 16-14 victory over Zola in the most exciting match of the day.
Nicholls continues action tomorrow taking on Arkansas-Little Rock at 9 a.m.
