LAKE CHARLES, La. -
In Southland Conference action Saturday afternoon, McNeese State defeated the Nicholls volleyball team 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-19) in Memorial Gym.
"Today was a great opportunity for us to get a win on the road," said Chris Laird, head coach of the Colonels, "but we just came out with no emotion. We had our usual players on the court today and couldn't find anyone to step up and lead."
With the loss, the Colonels fall to 5-10 (2-3 SLC), while the Cowgirls improve to 5-11 (2-3 SLC) on the season.
"We've got to learn how to play aggresively rather than out of fear," noted Laird. "I'm just really disappointed in the entire weekend."
Senior Chelsey Adams (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Pensacola JC) led Nicholls with four block assists and seven kills, hitting .333, and was followed by junior Manieka Golden (Porter, Texas/Galveston CC) who posted six kills and eight digs in the three-set match.
Recording her seventh-straight double-digit dig performance was senior Enjoli Ford (New Orleans, La./McDonough 35) who tallied 11 vs. the Cowgirls. Junior Amy Whitehead dished out 20 assists on the afternoon, adding three block assists.
"This was a very disappointing weekend for us," Laird added. "I thought we'd bounce back better today after a bad loss last night, but we just played with a lack of desire through the entire weekend. We've got a big match at home on Wednesday, so hopefully we can find a way to play with determination."
The Colonels will return to Stopher Gym Wednesday evening, hosting Lamar in a midweek league match-up at 7 p.m.
