BEAUMONT, Texas - In the final road game of the 2008 season, the Nicholls soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at Lamar Sunday afternoon.

The Colonels (2-15, 0-8) got on the board off the foot of sophomore Kaity Mattsson (Bracebridge, Ontario/Bracebridge & Muskoka Lakes Secondary). Mattsson, the leading scorer for Nicholls with eight on the season, flipped the ball into an open goal in the 69th minute.

Freshman Lana Ashford (Baton Rouge, La./Tara) spent the full 90 minutes in goal for the Colonels, making six saves.

Cardinal forward Aline Pugliesi scored the first two goals for Lamar, putting the first in the back of the net in the sixth minute of action.

Nicholls will host the final game of the 2008 season next Sunday, taking on Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. at the Colonel Soccer Complex.
