THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls went into the locker room at halftime with a 17-point deficit to Alcorn State and narrowed the margin to less than 10 in the second half, but the Lady Braves held on for the 66-56 victory in the Harang Auditorium on Monday night.

"I can not tell you how proud I am of my team in the effort they are putting forth every game. I told them we have to have that second half surge in the first half, and we will find ourselves a win," said head coach DoBee Plaisance.

The Colonels (0-7) were led by senior Dominique Washington with 16 points in 37 minutes of action on the floor. Of Washington's points, 12 of them came in the first half. The only other Nicholls player in double figures was senior Christie Bryant with 15 points.

The Lady Braves (1-9) had eight active players for the game and four of them crossed the decade mark. Leading Alcorn State was Corneshia Hollis with 16 points.

Alcorn State went into the locker room with a 42-25 lead, due in large part to 15 Nicholls turnovers that led to 21 Lady Braves' points. The Lady Braves also shot 83.3 percent (5-of-6) from three-point land in the first half to go along with a 55.6 percent (15-of-27) mark from the floor. Nicholls was 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from field goal range and 40 percent (2-of-5) from downtown at the midway point.

In the second half, the Colonels outscored the Lady Braves 31-24 on the heels of 50.0 percent (12-of-24) shooting from field goal range. Nicholls also out rebounded Alcorn State 19-to-15 in the second half as a part of their surge, but a key offensive rebound by the Lady Braves with less than 40 seconds left closed out all comeback hopes for the Colonels.

Nicholls will be back in action in Stopher Gym on Wednesday when they take on regional rival Tulane at 6:30 p.m.
