THIBODAUX, La. -
After a seesaw affair in the early goings of the first half that had four lead changes and one tie, New Orleans found its grove and defeated Nicholls 84-55 in Stopher Gym on Monday afternoon.
"I was very proud of the way they competed and never gave up. It seems that in every game we improve a little more as a team," said Head Coach DoBee Plaisance.
The Colonels (0-10) were led by senior Christie Bryant with a stellar effort that included her first double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Bryant also added two steals to her stat sheet in 36 minutes of action.
Following Bryant across the 10-point plateau was fellow senior Dominique Washington with 12 to go along with her two assists and one rebound. Senior Tiffany Jones finished with the next highest point total with seven, and she also added a career-high six steals in the loss.
The Lady Privateers (6-5) had four players in double figures with Jada Frazier leading the way with 20 points and seven rebounds. As a team, New Orleans shot 47.9 percent (34-of-71) from the floor, and 40 percent (8-of-20) from three-point land. UNO also out-rebounded Nicholls, 50-to-27.
Nicholls shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from field goal range and 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from downtown for the game. Their three-point percentage was their best mark as a team this season.
