HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss held a 49-16 lead at halftime, and continued to capitalize on Nicholls' miscues in the second half en route to a 101-41 victory Tuesday night in the Reed Green Coliseum.

The Colonels (0-10) were led by true freshman Portia Washington with 11 points, while senior Christie Bryant also crossed the 10-point plateau with 10 in the loss. Bryant also had a team high five rebounds in the loss.

Southern Miss (7-6) was led by Pauline Love with 28 points, which 22 of them came in the first half. Love also added 10 rebounds to maintain her double-double average on the season. The Golden Eagles had three other players cross the decade mark in the victory.

At halftime, the Golden Eagles led 49-16. Southern Miss started off the game on a 21-3 run that included an 8-0 stint to start the game. The Golden Eagles also used a 16-0 run midway through the first to strength its lead to as many as 33 in the first half.

The Colonels played better in the second half, but the Golden Eagles stayed on pace to get the victory. For the game, Southern Miss shot 62.3 percent (43-of-69) and won the rebounding battle, 48-to-23. It was also the first time that Southern Miss had scored 100-plus points in a game since 1997.

Nicholls will resume action on January 10, 2009 at Northwestern State. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
