The Lady Colonel tennis squad improved to 3-0 Sunday afternoon, defeating in-state rival Louisiana-Monroe 4-3 at the Nicholls Tennis Courts.
Nicholls captured the doubles point on No. 1 and No. 2 wins. Florina Nosca/Melissa Harrison defeated Noelia Leon/Sharon Makhanya 8-2 at the No. 1 position, while Natalie Zomora/Anne-Claire Murier won 8-2 over Elodie Burlet/Ana Burjaili at No. 2.
Sumana Kalyanasundram/Sanja Stanojcic dropped the No. 3 match 8-7 to Marion Lehmann/Lena Satge.
The two teams split the singles matches at three a piece. Nosca claimed a No. 1 singles victory 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 over Noelia Leon, but Murier fell 6-4, 6-0 to Lena Satge at No. 2
The No. 3 match went to the Lady Colonels as Zomora took down Burjaili 6-3, 6-1, but the Warhawks captured wins at the No.4 and No. 5 positions. Harrison fell 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 to Lehmann at No. 4, with Stanojcic losing 6-1, 6-1 to Makhanya at No. 5.
Rounding out the winning for Nicholls was Kalanasundram who defeated Burlet 6-1, 6-1.
The Lady Colonels now take a 12-day break before returning to action on Feb. 22 when they open Southland Conference action vs. Texas-Pan American.
