MACON, Ga. -
After having the first day completely postponed and having today's games pushed back while Sikes Field recovered from inclement weather, Nicholls won their first and only game today over Austin Peay, 2-1, in the Mercer Wingate Inn Classic.
The second game against Mercer that was scheduled for 6 p.m. was rescheduled for tomorrow at 7 a.m. due to poor field conditions. The Colonels will follow up their battle with the Bears with a bout against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at 9 a.m. to close out the weekend in the classic.
"I thought that we played a little sluggish, but I was pleased with how competitive we were considering that we been able to play the last 36 hours," said head coach Jenny Parsons.
"Lacey (Gros) threw well despite her walks, and the offense really rallied around her while she was in the circle today."
In the Colonels (4-6) win today, sophomore Lacey Gros went the distance as she threw all seven innings while only allowing one hit and one earned in getting her first victory as a Colonel. Gros also four strikeouts and six walks.
Getting it done at the plate was senior Kat Harrell as she accounted for two of Nicholls' three hits with a 2-for-2 showing that included a homerun, a RBI, and a run. The other hit was by sophomore Nicole Smith as she went 1-for-2 with an RBI in the win.
