The Nicholls baseball team dropped an 8-3 decision Tuesday evening at Louisiana College. The Colonels fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 5-4.
Craig Naquin (1-1) got the win for the Wildcats, while Lance Guidroz took the loss in relief for the Colonels.
The Colonels jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage when shortstop Keith Kulbeth hit a two-out solo shot over the left field wall in the top of the first inning.
Louisiana College tied the game at one in the bottom of the fourth inning on a single down the left field line by Bryan George that scored Anthony Benoit from second base.
The Wildcats went ahead 4-1 in the fifth, loading the bases on a Colonel error and two hit batsmen before Andrew Shelton knocked a bases-clearing triple into right field.
Nicholls cut the lead to one in the sixth, getting baserunners in the form of Kulbeth and Shane Barksdale. Kulbeth singled to right field to lead off the inning and, a batter later, Barksdale was hit by a pitch. Zac Bone drew a two-out walk to load the bases before T.J. Menerey drove a single through the right side that plated two runs.
But Louisiana College answered right back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning on a homerun to dead centerpfield by David Roux and an RBI single by Walt McGee to bring the score to 6-3 in favor of the Wildcats.
LC added insurance runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Matt Smith.
Menerey and Kulbeth each finished the game with two hits for the Colonels. On the night, Kulbeth extended his multi-hit game streak to three games.
The Colonels will return to Ray E. Didier Field tomorrow night to face the UNO Privateers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
