LATE FREE THROWS SINK LADY COLONELS AT NORTHWESTERN

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Lady Colonel basketball team suffered its sixth consecutive loss Thursday night, dropping a 74-69 decision at Northwestern State to fall to 5-19 (3-10 SLC) on the season.

Katherine Plummer poured in a team-high 22 points, sinking eight buckets from the floor and going 6-of-9 from the charity stripe. Plummer added nine rebounds, six steals and dished out four assists.

The Lady Colonels were down by seven points with 2:38 to go in the contest and closed the gap to three with 21 seconds remaining, before Lady Demon free throws put the game away for Northwestern.

Northwestern State's top player, Tena Matthews netted 22 points of her own and added 10 rebounds. Matthews went 8-of-9 from the line.

As a team, the Lady Demons shot 65.4% from the line.

In the first half, the Lady Colonels shot 45.2% (14-of-31) but never attempted a shot from beyond the arc. Yet Nicholls was down by just two, 35-33, at the halftime break.

Christie Bryant added 16 points for the Lady Colonels, who shot 63.2% from the free-throw line.

For Northwestern, Ashli Barnum poured in 14 and Courtney Shead grabbed 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.

The Lady Colonels were outrebounded 47 to 36, with the Lady Demons pulling down 19 offensive boards.

The Lady Demons tallied 19 assists, led by Tweet Williams' 11 in the contest.

For the Lady Colonels, Tiffany Jones sank both shots she attempted from three-point range in the second half.
