ARLINGTON, Texas - Nicholls' men's tennis squad captured a 6-1 Southland Conference victory over Texas-Arlington Monday afternoon.

The Colonels (4-1, 1-0) claimed the doubles point with wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 slots. Radu Ionescu/Vlad Popa defeated David Costa/Hugo Taracido 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Eric Fisher/Phenyo Matong won 8-4 over Brieuc Hamon/Nishant Hari. Dropping the No. 3 doubles contest, Alex Gasca-Silav/Sami Mouline fell 8-2 to Dmitry Minkin/Gonzalo Bienzobas.

In singles action, Ionescu took the No. 1 match 6-7, 6-0, 10-8 from Costa. At No. 2, Popa fell 6-3, 7-5 to Minkin in the Colonels' only singles loss of the day.

Fisher captured a No. 3 singles win 6-1, 6-4 over Hamon and Phenyo Matong's No. 4 match with Taracido was retired with the score 6-1, 4-6, 5-6. Rounding out the victories for Nicholls were Mouline and newcomer Chris Hernandez. Mouline won 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Bienzobas, while Hernandez defeated Hari 6-4, 6-4.

The Colonels travel to Grambling State Tuesday for a 1:30 p.m. match.
