The Lady Colonel basketball squad snapped a seven game losing streak Saturday afternoon, defeating Central Arkansas 78-66 in Stopher Gym.
Nicholls (6-19, 4-10 SLC) was led by the duo of freshman Shelley West and senior Katherine Plummer who scored a combined 49 points in the contest.
West poured in 20 points, with four treys and 6-of-8 free throw shooting. She added seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Plummer netted a game-high 29 points, going 9-of-21 from the floor and 9-of-12 shooting from the line. The tally gives Plummer sole posession of second place in the Nicholls' record books in career points with 1,263.
The 5-4 guard added eight boards and six steals in the outing.
The Lady Colonels took an early 18-11 lead, but eleven-straight made free throws by the Sugar Bears gave UCA a lead they would not relinquish until the five-minute mark of the second half.
Central Arkansas (7-21, 5-10 SLC) took a 37-32 lead to the lockerroom at the half, using 11 bench points and six points off of Colonel turnovers in the first half.
Nicholls used free throws of their own to regain the lead at the 5:08 point in the second frame. UCA pulled as close four points away from the lead, but consistent shooting from the Lady Colonels in the last few minutes of play secured the lead.
