Box Score

BATON ROUGE, La. - Nicholls only scored two runs through the course of seven quick innings, and it was all they needed on Wednesday evening as the Colonels defeated the Southern Jaguars, 2-0.

"We have pitched really well since the middle of our game against LSU last week, and if we continue to battle at the plate we can only get better," said head coach Jenny Parsons.

The Colonels (11-14) only had three hits that scored two runs while the Jaguars (14-11) had four hits and nothing to show for it on the scoreboard.

One of Nicholls' three hits was a homerun by senior Amy Thibodeaux over the centerfield wall in the top of the sixth. It was Thibodeaux's 10th homerun of the season, which puts her alone atop the Southland Conference.

The other run that the Colonels scored came in the top of the second inning when sophomore Leah Bland hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored sophomore Nicole Smith from third. Smith singled in her at bat as she finished 1-for-3 with a run.

The Colonels only other hit came of the bat of true freshman Whitney Roan as she finished 1-for-3 in her first start since injuring herself in the series against Central Arkansas.

Improving to 3-1 in the circle was sophomore Audrey Wood as she threw a complete game shutout giving up four hits, one walk and striking out four.

Nicholls will be back in action this weekend against Houston Baptist at home in the Colonel Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. for the doubleheader.
