Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. - A three-run shot over the left field wall by Anthony Wray in the sixth inning put the Colonels up 11-7, leading to an eventual 12-10 SLC victory over Texas State for Nicholls Saturday afternoon at Ray E. Didier Field.

Wray finished 3-for-5 at the plate with a team-high four RBI.

Jake Parrish (1-1) claimed the win for Nicholls, throwing 2.2 innings of relief. He struck out one Bobcat batter and surrendered just three hits. Dale Dickerson picked up his third save of the season.

For the Bobcats, Kane Holbrooks (1-1) got the loss, giving up five runs, including Wray's three-run blast.

Finding themselves down 4-1 after just one inning, Nicholls battled back, scoring at least one run in every inning, except the eighth.

"Our guys did a great job of not losing momentum and confidence after we got down in the first inning," said Nicholls head coach Chip Durham. "Jake Parrish and Dale Dickerson did a great job for us on the mound, but my hat is off to our hitters."

The Colonels (3-11, 1-1 SLC) tied a season-high with 16 hits, led by Wray and Jordy Toups, who combined for six. Toups went 3-for-4 with three singles and also walked once.

"I can't say enough about Jordy Toups - a freshman - coming in these last two games," Durham noted. "Sometimes, when certain situations come up, you find out a lot about a guy, so I'm really proud of him and the whole team today."

Brandt Boudreaux extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 2-for-4 on the day.

"We hung in there and battled through the entire game. Our hitters did a great job picking up where our pitchers had problems."

Brett Cook, Shane Barksdale and Zac Bone all recorded two-hit games for Nicholls.

Adam Witek was a perfect 5-for-5 for the Bobcats, but was RBI-less on the day.

"We hung in there and battled through the entire game. Our hitters did a great job picking up where our pitchers had problems. Texas State is a good ball club. They swing the bat well and we definitely stepped up to the plate today."

The Colonels and Bobcats will play the series' rubber match Sunday, with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. Lance Dupuis will get the nod for Nicholls, while Texas State is expected to send Zack Tritz to the mound.
