THIBODAUX, La. - A three-run home run by Paul Goldschmidt in the top of the first plated all the runs the Bobcats would need Sunday afternoon as Texas State defeated Nicholls 10-0 in the final game of SLC-opening weekend at Didier Field.

"[Lance] Dupuis went out with an aggravated ankle and just didn't have his stuff today," said Colonel skipper Chip Durham. "After the first inning, the game was over because we didn't score any runs. You're not going to win ball games or even have a chance to win games without putting runs on the board."

Zack Tritz (3-0) threw a complete-game shut out for Texas State, scattering six hits through eight innings of work and striking out three Colonel batters.

Lance Dupuis (0-2) took the loss for Nicholls, giving up six runs on five hits through 1.1 innings on the mound.

Goldschmit went 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, driving in five RBI, and Laurn Randell was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Texas State took a 6-0 lead after two innings, before Jacob Sullivan entered the game for the Colonels, holding the Bobcats scoreless through five innings. Sullivan K'ed four Texas State batters.

Shane Barksdale had two hits on the day for Nicholls, extending his hitting streak to six games, while Brandt Boudreaux went 1-for-3, bringing his streak to 10 games.

Anthony Wray, T.J. Menerey and Zac Bone all recorded hits for Nicholls.

"After the weekend we've had, I'm pretty disappointed in our hitters today. We just didn't perform like we did Friday and Saturday. I'm disappointed in our offense."

The Colonels will travel to Mobile, Ala., Tuesday for a midweek doubleheader at South Alabama. The first game is slated for 3 p.m.
