TENNIS SWEEPS MATCHES OVER SOUTHERN

THIBODAUX, La. - Both the men's and women's tennis squads swept their Sunday matches over Southern, each claiming a 7-0 victory at the Nicholls Tennis Courts.

In the women's match, Nicholls took two of three doubles matches. Florina Nosca/Melissa Harrison won 8-3 at No. 1, while Natalia Zomora/Sumana Kaylanasundrum won the No. 3 match 8-1. Anne-Claire Murier/Sanja Stanojcic fell 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles slot.

The Lady Colonels won all six singles matches, as Nosca won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 and Zomora claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 2 match. At No. 3, Melissa Harrison won 6-0, 6-1, while Murier notched a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 4 match. Stanojcic won her No. 5 match 6-3, 6-3, with Kaylanasundram taking the No. 6 match 6-1, 6-1.

The men cruised to a 7-0 win in the afternoon match. The Colonels swept the doubles point, taking all three matches. At No. 1, Vlad Popa/Radu Ionescu won 8-3, with Eric Fisher/Phenyo Matong claiming an 8-3 victory at No. 2. In the No. 3 slot, Sami Mouline/Chris Hernandez.

In singles action, Ionescu claimed a 6-4, 6-2 No. 1 victory and Fisher won 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 match. Popa won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, while Matong took a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 4 slot. In the No. 5 match, Rohan Shetty took a 6-4, 6-4 victory and Alex Gasca-Silav won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.
