SAN MARCOS, Tex. - Texas State took the series in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon as the Bobcats broke a two-all tie in the bottom of the eighth to win 3-2 at Bobcat Field.

Texas State (20-11, 13-2) scored their final run on a wild pitch by senior Krystalin Ensminger that brought home McKenzie Baack from third. The run by Baack, who was 3-for-3 in the contest, was unearned due to a fielding error, but it didn't matter as Texas State got the win and the series in extra innings.

Getting the win for the Bobcats was Katie Garnett as she improved to 10-4, while Ensminger was dubbed with the loss to fall to 4-9 in her senior campaign.

As a team, Texas State muscled out three runs on seven hits while committing three fielding errors. Nicholls only had two runs on four hits while having two miscues in the field.

Nicholls (13-17, 6-6) started off the game with a run in back-to-back innings as senior Kat Harrell scored in the first on a RBI single by junior Danielle Clayton. Harrell scored from second on the play after a throwing error by the Bobcats.

Sophomore Nicole Smith hit a solo homerun to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead after two innings of play. It was Smith's first homerun wearing Nicholls' colors.

The 2-0 lead was erased in the bottom of fourth when Texas State picked up two runs on two hits and one costly error by Smith that allowed the Bobcats to keep the inning going.

Leading the Colonels at the plate was Clayton as she went 2-for-4 with a RBI while Smith and junior Kodi Butler each recorded one hit. Butler's hit was a double to right center in the top of the eighth.

The Colonels will be back in action at home against Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday for a mid-week doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
