Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over Loyola in the bottom of the first, but couldn't hold on, falling 5-3 to the Wolfpack Wednesday night at Ray E. Didier Field.

Miles Colley (3-2) went the distance for Loyola, tossing eight innings of four-hit ball after the first inning and striking out seven Colonel batters. In all, Colley scattered six hits and four walks through nine innnings for the Wolfpack.

"I'm just very disappointed in our club tonight," stated Colonel head coach Chip Durham. "We came out and scored three runs in the first inning, but I've got to tip my hat to their pitcher, Colley. He pitched a great game."

Jacob Sullivan falls to 0-2 for Nicholls, giving up two in the seventh when Joshua Borges drove a two-RBI single to left center that plated Brian Mason and Stephen Carrolo. In all, Sullivan gave up four hits through two innings of work with one walk and one strike out.

For the Colonels, Walter Jones posted a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 at the plate and scoring a run.

Nicholls threatened in the fourth, loading the bases on an Anthony Wray single and back-to-back walks for Brett Hoeflich and T.J. Menerey, but the runners were left stranded.

"We've got a lot of veterans in the line-up, but can't get any leadership from them," Durham added. "We just ned someone to step up and be a leader for us."

Joe Hagerty was the most effective pitcher of the night for the Colonels, shutting down the Wolfpack in the eighth and ninth as he struck out four and did not allow a base runner.

"It's tough to lose a game like this after taking a game from Texas State and beating South Alabama," Durham noted. "My hat is off to G. Cassard - he did a great job with his team tonight."

The Colonels will hit the road, traveling to Corpus Christi, Texas for a three-game Southland Conference series with Texas A&m-Corpus Christi. Friday's first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
