The Colonel tennis squads picked up non-conference wins over Alcorn State Wednesday at the Colonel tennis courts. The women improve to 10-4 overall, while the men sit at 11-5.
In the Lady Colonel's match, Nicholls claimed a 5-2 victory despite being down two players.
Florina Nosca/Natalia Zomora defeated Sarah Peters/Swetha Devoras 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Anne-Claire Murier/Sanja Stanjocic won 8-4 over Stefania Guzman/Kati Hoepelman in the No. 2 match.
The Lady Colonels swept the top four singles matches to take the win. Nosca claimed a 6-0, 7-5 win over Devoras at No. 1 and Zomora took the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-4 from Guzman. In No. 3, Murier defeated Hoepelman 6-2, 6-0, while Stanojcic won 6-0, 6-1 over Felicia Chien.
Alcorn State took the No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 & 6 singles matches by default.
In the men's match, the Colonels swept the Braves 7-0.
Radu Ionescu/Vlad Popa won the No. 1 doubles match 8-6 over Azziz Abdurazzakov/Yanick Sharron-Hawkins. At No. 3 doubles, Eric Fisher/Phenyo Matong defeated Michael Okada/Pushpendra Raspurohit 8-3, while Rohan Shetty/Alex Gasca-Silav claimed an 8-2 win over Gordon Reaux/German Castillo.
In singles action, Ionescu defeated Abdurazzakov 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 1 match. Fisher took the No. 2 match 6-1, 6-0 from Okada and Popa won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 vs. Sharron-Hawkins. In the No. 4 match, Matong defeated Raspurohit 6-1, 6-4. Shetty claimed a 6-0, 6-4 win over Castillo at No. 5, while Gasca-Silav won 6-0, 6-0 over Reaux in the No. 6 match.
The women's squad will return to Southland Conference action Sunday, hosting Northwestern State at 10 a.m., while the men travel to Baton Rouge to face Southern on April 2.
