TEN RUNS NOT ENOUGH AS COLONELS FALL 14-10 AT A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Colonels scored 10 runs, including three as part of a ninth-inning rally, but could not overcome the Islander lead, falling 14-10 in the final game of a three-game series at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday afternoon at Chapman Field.

Cory Blair got the win for the Islanders, pitching an inning and a third of two-run relief to improve to 1-0 on the season.

Seth Webster (1-2) took the loss for the Colonels, surrendering 10 runs on 11 hits. Webster walked three and struck out three through 3.2 innings of work.

Nicholls took a 5-3 lead in the fourth on an RBI basehit by Walter Jones that scored T.J. Menerey and a balk by the Islander pitcher that sent Zac Bone home, but A&M-CC put seven of their own on the board in the bottom half of the inning.

The Islanders drove seven hits through the Colonel infield, including a triple by Chase Wheaton and a two-run homerun by Trey Hernandez.

Nicholls added two runs in the fifth, but A&M-Corpus Christi answered with three of their own in the eighth.

Keith Kulbeth posted his second multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and a double. Shane Barksdale also went 2-for-5 for Nicholls, scoring a run.

The Colonels attempted a rally in the top of the ninth, loading the bases on back-to-back pinch-hit singles by Josh Swenson and Kevin Persick and a pinch-hit walk by Corey Arceneaux and scoring two runs when Kulbeth drove a basehit to left field.
